Songbird-Nightly Tips

For those using the Arch GNU/Linux package of songbird-nightly (or songbird), you might find some of these tips useful:

To run Songbird, use:

$ /opt/songbird/songbird

To launch Songbird into Mozilla's profile manager dialog, run Songbird with '-p' option:

$ /opt/songbird/songbird -p

If your user is not 1000, then accordingly change owner of the songbird directory, with using sudo (or using su or being root):

# chown -R username /opt/songbird

or:

# chown -R username:usergroup /opt/songbird

Profiles are problematic. If you are having a problem with Songbird, check the profiles first. You can delete them:

$ rm -r ~/.songbird1

and:

$ rm -r ~/.songbird

then start Songbird's profile manager:

$ /opt/songbird/songbird -p

and create a brand new profile.

Faster bird!

1. Enter "about:config" in the address bar.
2. Leave the tick as it is for the "Show this warning next time".
3. Click "I'll be careful, I promise!"
4. Type "cache" in the filter bar.
5. Right-click "browser.cache.disk.capacity", and choose "Modify".
6. Type "16384" and click OK.
7. Right-click "network.prefetch-next", and choose "Toggle", to make its value be: false.

Be careful not to miss around too much with the settings.

To get the mouse back (and forward) button(s) working on Songbird 7.0pre (which is based on Mozilla® Firefox® 3), simply follow the same steps for doing the same on Firefox3.

For Songbird 0.5: if you get a parser error on starting it, try removing ~/.songbird1/
